About Me

Hi! My name is Courtney Gettemy (previously maiden name Rhodes). I am a part time artist creating pet portraits and wildlife art for devoted pet lovers and nature enthusiasts.
I am passionate about conservation, herbal teas, and finding unique secondhand items that make my house feel like home. My favorite things to do are hiking with my dog, drawing in my studio with my cat nearby, and sitting on my comfy couch with a good bowl of curry watching Netflix with my husband. (Can you tell I'm a bit of an introvert? haha) I believe in living life by your own terms and seeing as much of this big beautiful world as possible.

My Art Journey
I've been an artist since I could hold a crayon in my hand. I grew up loving animals and the outdoors and often portrayed my favorite animal, horses, in my drawings. As a military family we moved around a lot but one thing I always had was my art. In high school I won my first congressional art show and was featured in the local paper for my art. It lit a fire in my soul and when I graduated in 2008 I applied to the University of Louisville's studio art program. After 4 years of experimenting with different mediums like drawing, painting, ceramics, graphic design, glass blowing, and photography I transferred to the Art Institutes in Jacksonville, Florida for Graphic Design. After a stressful semester of Graphic Design courses I left the Institute. For years I believed I couldn't make it as an artist so I didn't even try. Then, a few years later, after spending some time living in London, UK, I was inspired by the art scene and decided to try my hand at pet portraits. I brought this art form back with me to the U.S. and before I knew it I was getting requests! Now, I have found a purpose in helping pet owners memorialize their beloved pets and simply give all pet owners a beautiful piece of art. It is my goal to begin creating wildlife pieces in hopes of supporting conservation efforts across the globe. I am always growing as an individual and I can hope hope my art will continue to do the same.
